The honest answer: the best time to replace your roof is when you can plan it, rather than waiting for a leak to force the decision. That said, the seasons do make a difference in the Houston area.
01
Spring
Mild temperatures make spring a comfortable time for installation, and booking before the summer rush often means more scheduling flexibility. It's also storm season, so build a little weather flexibility into the plan.
02
Summer
Warm, consistent weather helps shingles seal well, which is why summer through fall is the busiest period for roofers. Expect earlier start times on hot days, and book ahead because demand is high. Summer is also hurricane season, so having a sound roof before the peak matters.
03
Fall
Fall is often considered ideal: temperatures are moderate, there's less rain than spring, and new shingles have time to seal before cooler weather. Because it's popular, schedule early.
04
Winter
Houston winters are generally mild, so roofs can be replaced most of the year. On genuinely cold days, though, shingles become stiff and can crack, and adhesive strips seal more slowly. Good roofers watch the forecast and work on suitable days.

Signs It's Time — Whatever the Season
Age
Asphalt shingle roofs approaching 15–20 years old deserve a closer look.
Granule loss
Bare patches or lots of granules in the gutters.
Curling, cracked or missing shingles
Especially across large areas of the roof.
Repeated leaks
When repairs keep coming back, replacement may cost less over time.
Storm damage
Hail or wind damage may be covered by insurance — get it inspected first.
